Happy Saturday

This weekend finds us back at Marina West Yacht Club. One of my favorite places to go. On Friday the 13th we had their famous Taco Bar and let me tell you it's a feast and then some. Tonight we have a choice of steak or chicken, baked potato, corn on the cob and dessert. Marina West Yacht Club is a good place to gain five pounds during the weekend. They really feed you and treat you like royalty.

And look at these two beautiful women. That's Miss Bee on the left and Barb on the right. They got to visit with each other last weekend. It was a short visit, but a visit nonetheless. I wish I could have been there too. Love you both.

Hubby and I are still in the downsizing mode. We do way too much with volunteering our time. Some organizations will suck the very last breath out of you. We've decided that it's just what happens. There are many people that aren't willing to help out and so few that will volunteer their time. I hear people in our yacht club say they just want to enjoy the cruises and they will never work. These are the very people that complain about anything that isn't perfect. You know the type right? If we each helped a little it would make things far easier for everyone.

Hubby is the secretary for a 710 member gun club. The board treats him like a secretary too. They call him for everything. EVERYTHING! Just the other day one of the board members (who has a list of all the board members names and phone numbers), but because it wasn't right there he called Zane and Zane stopped what he was doing and got the number for him at 8:00 in the evening. I'm surprised he didn't have hubby make the call and relay a message. It's that bad. They call anytime, for anything!

Tomorrow is Fathers Day. I sure miss my father. He's been gone a very long time. We had a very rocky relationship while I was growing up, but that changed over the years. Funny how I didn't like my father for years and years and then grew to like him later in life. I'm glad we both gave each other another chance. Not to be confused with loving him. Always loved him, just didn't like him. So happy Fathers Day to all the great dads out there.

  1. Seymour is talking about downsizing...I told him a chisel would do it. He didn't find that funny.

    1. Seymour doesn't have much of a sense of humor where he is concerned. I've noticed that. :)

  2. That is pretty funny about Seymour. Ouch!!!! I so agree with you Sandee about the volunteering. People will take advantage for sure. Glad you are downsizing.Life is way too short not to take the time to enjoy it.
My best to Sandee, Zane and Little Bit. That food has made the Person drool and that is not pretty. Take care.

    1. Yep, they sure do take advantage. We'll be done in 2.5 years and then it's all about us.

You have a great weekend too Marg. :)

  3. So far I've managed to not get tangled in the web of volunteerism. I don't have a busy schedule, but I am free to watch the grandkids activities, fish, ahd photograph the world around me. Most organizations are very much like you have described...20% of the members do 80% of the work and 20% of those who don't work do 80% of the whinning. Just sayin'.

  5. There are some organizations that really do take advantage of volunteer time, and like you I see why, but the logic is that it's going to burn out the ones who really want to stay! Or so it was with me. :) And then there are others where they try not to overtax you and don't give you enough. ha! Healthy balance is sometimes hard to find. It's nice when you get there though. :)

Father's Day came fast this year!

  7. Love those two ladies...and you and Zane. Lucky me. Glad y'all are getting rid of some of the volunteering stuff. Not fair for you two to be such worker bees, but that's just the way you both are...really good people. Time to slow down and just enjoy each other.

    Big hugs times two, honey...

  11. downsizing is work! But well worth it! When we moved we downsized our volunteer committments also! We still volunteer, but are more careful how we choose projects! Cheers and big hugs to you!

  12. It's one reason i learned, long ago, to volunteer to be a worker and not a leader, and to only do certain work for a certain amount of time each week.

    Happy Father's Day to all!

  14. That is too true. My mother-in-law and her husband volunteer at the hospital one day a week while also serving on their HOA. It gets them out of the house. I've found many people retire and do nothing--even if you're cruising, you aren't cruising year round. It actually is good for people to get out around people and feel as though they're contributing. They may not realize the toll sitting around all day after retirement takes on a person.

    1. Most people do sit in a recliner and they are gone in five years. Not us. Even when we are done with our obligations we'll be doing fun stuff for us. Not going to sit. :)

Bee, you are so funny. I needed some tips in golf for hitting my irons and positioning my body. ( Now don't laugh and say anything about my body ) I just finished and he taught me a great deal. Now, I just need to practice what he taught me. You know they have yellow and pink balls just for you my gorgeous friend. I even use the pink balls when I have to hit over the water. That way if I don't hit over the water, they sink to the bottom. You should try to begin to golf. Wouldn't you like to hit balls? Ha,ha,ha. Have a wonderful Saturday you sweet thing. See ya.

i thought marylou said you knew how to position your body. and paul, the white balls sink too. i am going to have to teach you golf, i can see that now.

The photo of Bee and her friend is really good. She looks gorgeous. The very first time Bee & I met on the Valor, her and I didn't look as good as do now. Thanks to her I decided to lose my weight and her, just look at her now.
Steak , baked potato, corn on the cob and dessert now that is what I want. You & Zane need to get out of all that silliness and start enjoying your life. Sail away on your yacht by yourself and not let anyone else bother you.
I also miss my dad. He passed away in the year 2000 and to this day I still wish I could spend time with him. Today I guess I'm that father and my daughter & her family gave me a great dinner some presents that were very thoughtful. My son, well he no longer wishes to see me. I miss him but that is his lost.
Have a great evening my good friend. See ya.

Happy Fathers Day Paul., I know all about kids. If you help them too much and then stop they want nothing to do with you. I know all about that. ::)

  16. It seems like if everyone helped out a tiny bit, we could help so many people. You're husband, like you, seems like a nice person, one of the good apples in the world. It's a shame, there it's a basketful of people like the two of you.

I'm glad your two beautiful friends were able to visit for awhile, and I'm sorry you weren't able to be there.

You know, it sounds like your relationship with your father was the close to the same one I have with mine. We never got along well in my younger years, but now we have grown closer than I would have ever imagined. I'm glad you ironed things out, and I know he knew you loved him.

I hope you enjoy your steak or chicken, baked potato, corn on the cob and dessert tonight, as well as the rest of your week-end.

    hugs to you-

  19. Thanks for the Father's Day reminder. NZ has the same mother's day as the states, but our Father's day isn't until Sept, so tomorrow I will ring my dad. As for volunteering, I agree with Sarah, it is a great way to give back, but you are right, they do keep asking for more. You know the saying, if you want something done, ask a busy person.

  21. You do have to know when enough is enough, and you've given back a lot through the years so it's about time you cut back on your duties.

Our relationships with our parents tend to go through many phases. And the older we get, the wiser they seem.

    ReplyDelete

    1. We agree on the cutting back and we intend to do so.

Yes the older we get the wiser they seem, but that's not why I didn't like my father. :)
