Weekend Projects

Murphy's Law of DIY (Do-It-Yourself )

Any project will require at least two journeys to the hardware shop.

If you need more than one item (pair, four, etc) the probability that one will be damaged or the wrong color is directly proportional to the desire or need of the object.

You always need more paint.

You never have enough nails, screws or glue.

The likelihood that you will complete a weekend project before the end of the weekend decreases with when you actually start the project.

Therefore: Any plumbing project started after 4pm on Sunday will require an emergency call to the plumber to get the water running again.

To estimate the amount of time needed to complete a project: estimate the amount of time needed, multiply by two and use the next highest unit. Hence: A one hour task will take at least two days to complete.

  2. And, if you drop a tool while doing the do-it-yourself project, the tool will immediately roll to the most inaccessible point in the room. Enjoy your project!

  3. Better tack on a little more time for me, I'm super slow on DIY items because I don't want to mess them up. :)

    Happy Tuesday!

  4. I don't even attempt any DIY projects since they will not get finished. But good advice as to what is probably going to happen. Have a great day.

  5. Don't forget to factor in age and arthritis when determining amount of time necessary to complete the project. Use a multiplier of at least 3 for each.

  6. Sounds like what befalls my husband on weekends that he intends to do a bit of work around the house. Inevitably he only gets part of his job list done do to Murphy's Law.

  14. Hey, Sandee! Were you spying on us this past weekend? I had a list of tasks for me and Jeff to do. There were 4 or 5 tasks listed for the long holiday weekend here in the Philippines (Nov01 to 03), and alas! Nothing was done. I kept the list for this next weekend, though ;o)

  20. Murphy's Law indeed. And its hard to plan for those things that go wrong---just bring the hardware store home.

  21. They need to have a 24 hour emergency hardware store in every town.
