Wednesdays Question

It's Wednesday so that means it's question time. It's time to ponder and then answer just one question. Okay, you can add all you want as a reason for your answer too. We'd all like that. I'll even answer my own question as that's only fair.

So here's this weeks question: Do you have a household budget?
Yes we have a household budget. Hubby and are are on the same page where money is concerned. I do the finances and I know where every dime goes each month. Hubby and I don't spend any money on ourselves without the permission of the other. It's been working well for many years.

  1. Yes. And no. Because something always happens to bust the budget. But there's an allowance built-in for such occasions. So yes. How's that for ambiguity? :))

Have yourself a wonderful Wednesday, Sandee! Big hugs xoxo

  2. Well, not really. I keep track of where our money goes so know what we spend it on; however, if we want to buy something, we do. We don't look to see how much is remaining in the "budget" for that item.

If we get a lot of expenses in a month, we do try to cut back the next month and save wherever we can and put a "freeze" on buying things that we don't really need.

  3. Absolutely we do. It is flexible enough to allow us certain liberties, but it the basis for managing our financial obligations. I suspect it will become more important now that I will retire very soon. Today is my last real day in the office!

  4. I sure do have a budget since there just isn't much money around here, so there is no choice but to budget. Take care Sandee and Zane and for sure have a great day.

  5. Yes. But only on big purchases. We keep 3 accounts, hers, his and ours (obviously the biggest)

My wife can shop and spend anything from her account and I don't care what she spends. Joint account we discuss anything beyond day to day stuff.

  9. Ahh, that is a painful question...Hmm, no we don't have a plan, unfortunately, we can't afford it because we are being paid kind of chaotically, not on a regular basis, so we save like crazy and then spend like crazy :)

  10. No household budget, but our expenses are very low and we can usually afford what we want.

  11. Nope, but I am in charge of the checkbook and have every item listed properly in QuickBooks, so I know what is or is not available to spend! Hubby is in charge of making sure there is enough to go around.

    Big hugs, honey...

  12. Yes. My wife Lalitha and I keep a budget for our monthly expenses and monitor the same. Special expenses like buying gifts etc., are fixed on mutual consent and routine & recurring expenses on the basis of budget provisions.
    Have a great day!

  14. in a way we do. We budget expenses, save a bit, and spend on niceties when we want. We discuss bigger purchases, over say $50-100. But day-to-day expenses, though tracked, aren't budgeted.

  16. I don't know if what we have would be considered a budget. We have separate accounts. His is his and mine is mine and so long as the bills are covered the rest we do what we want to. I'm a better saver than he is though

  17. Oh yes Sandee. The economic situation in my country is not good at this time so one has to plan everything carefully and watch what one spends. No easy task! Enjoy the rest of your day.

  18. We don't have a budget but because I'm an accountant I find it fun to keep close track of our finances so know where we're at all times. I guess we sorta had a budget for the upcoming bathroom remodel but that went out the window as soon as we started shopping for things. I sorta want what I want and don't settle in those cases. :) Hope you are having a great week Sandee!

  20. Yes, I have a budget, but still the savings account gets smaller each month. Retirement is a bummer at times.

  21. Like you, we have a very detailed budget and know where every cent is spent. It is the only we could have traveled for a year.

  22. Not really do we have a budget. We spend more than we get in until I get paid. I get paid at the end of the year.

It should last with the little retirement (17 years with Ford and get $214 a month), SS's (not much as we were Texas school workers) and Mrs. Jim's retirement. When we run out we borrow from Mrs. Jim's and the kids inheritance (i.e. savings).
