Wednesdays Question

It's Wednesday so that means it's question time. It's time to ponder and then answer just one question. Okay, you can add all you want as a reason for your answer too. We'd all like that. I'll even answer my own question as that's only fair.

So here's this weeks question: Do you stock up on food and water in case of an emergency or do you shop as you need things?
We have lots of food and water and can go for a very long time without shopping. We've also learned to survive without electricity and other creature comforts. We do live in earthquake country.

  1. I lived in Hurricane Central for 31 years... I always have non-perishable foods and water, batteries, cash, gas for the car and generator, propane for the grill, etc. And I can batten down the hatches at speeds that would astonish you. srsly.

Being unprepared is just being someone else's burden.

Have yourself a funtabulous day, Sandee! big hugs xoxo

  2. It's a little different for us. Most disasters or issues that require emergency supplies are usually foreseeable for us. No earthquakes (though we did have a little one a couple of years ago.)

So we tend to stock up as needed. It also saves on storage space. For Hurrican Sandy we even managed to procure a generator, at a whopping price, unfortunately. But, wouldn't you know it, we NEVER lost power!!! Amazing, considering we lose it for a slight wind gust during a run of the mill summer storm! lol.

  3. When I lived in San Francisco I taught a class called "safety and survival in an earthquake." Yes, we have the supplies on hand. Funny timing as we had an earthquake in Auckland, a rare occurrence, just the other day. Here are Earthquake safety tips

  4. I used to stay prepared when I lived on the coast, for the hurricanes. But now, I just shop for what I need. Take care.

  5. Always prepared with food and water, but we need a generator. In our small town, electricity goes out every time it storms, and is really bad in the winter.

  12. We usually have enough water and food but we get the information about storms and hurricanes way ahead of time so that we can go and get extra stuff. Take good care and enjoy the rest of your day Sandee.

  14. We keep saying we should stock up since we could get an earthquake up here too but so far we're not ready at all. Hope that means we won't have an earthquake!

  17. We stock up some main essentials... not so much water. We usually do a monthly grocery run. And the rest are from weekly market runs.

  18. we sort of stock up. I usually have bottled water on hand. and when we 'know' a storm is coming I will fill up buckets of water for the toilet. since we have a well the water would be gone PDQ! I need to stock back up on canned foods.

  23. We have quite a bit around. But only in Huricane Season do we keep a few gallons of water. Our stove top runs off the butane tank so we can cook our frozen stuff that will thaw in a few days of no electricity.
