Politics 101

One of my daily stops is Mike at A Five Minute Vacation. He has many topics he covers but I really like it when he writes about politics. We, as a nation, are so very divided. It's a shame, because the really important things are often overlooked because people are stuck on their party lines. It doesn't matter what wrong the politicians commit they stick to their party line.

I place economy among the first and most important of republican virtues, and public debt as the greatest of dangers to be feared. And to preserve independence, we much not let our rulers load us with perpetual debt. We must make our election between economy and liberty, not profusion and servitude. Thomas Jefferson

To steal from one person is theft. To steal from many is taxation.

People try to live within their incomes so they can afford to pay taxes to a government that can't live withing its income. Robert Half

Serfs in the Middle Ages had to give up 20% of their income yearly and that made them virtual slaves. Today the average American pays 47%. What does that make Americans? Kenneth Prazak

There are two distinct classes of men - those who pay taxes and those who receive and live upon taxes. Thomas Pain

Here's what Mike had to say about our current nightmare of an election.
To fix a problem, we must first recognize what the problem is. Both the Democrats and the Republicans are spending billions pointing fingers at each other, when we need to be pointing our fingers at both of them. As you think about where your loyalty lies, and where your vote is going this year, keep these things in mind. If you play party politics; welcome to the witless class. They have you right where they want you.
Mike is right on the money. Right. On. The. Money. They fight over birth certificates, tax returns, college transcripts and other stupid stuff. What really matters? THE ECONOMY!

  1. 'Hell in a hand basket' is the phrase that always seems to come to my mind lately.

Have a lovely day hon. Big hugs xoxo

  2. I'm glad you enjoy the columns Sandee. You picked a good one to cite. Maybe I'm an old fool to have hope that things are changing. The kids seem to be wising up. Have a great day in this great country of ours.

  3. Damn Sandee, for a Comedy Blog your gettin damn right political! THANK GOD!...When your gettin out the vote remember...BIG vs SMALL...MORE SPENDING vs LESS...It ain't gonna be perfect till we turn this big ship around but...look at it this took 100+ years for they to get where they are...I say we can turn it around in 8!

  4. Ain't it so! I hate politics!!! We have gone from being a protector nation to being a provider one, and that can't work for very long. Big sigh here.

Have a great day. Big hugs, honey...

  5. Hi Sandee,
This post really gives serious food for thought. Sadly the problem of persons supporting the party line exists all over the world. It certainly does not augur well for a country. The politicians need to be told when they are wrong no matter what. Have a good day Sandee!

  6. I don't even want to make a comment on all this political stuff. I just hope whoever wins this election does a better job but I can't imagine either one of these men will do that. Some good points though.

  7. History shows that when the middle class falls, so does the society. This is why the Romans aren't still ruling the world and why we aren't speaking Latin. We all want our government to spend less, and it is, but that isn't the solution to our problem. We're in this pickle because the government isn't taking in enough taxes. Why? Because the average person has fallen on hard times and can't pay them. And the richest segment of our population isn't paying their fair share. The economy must be stimulated and the top five percent controlling wealth in this country have no interest in doing so. One of our problems is that we have too many lawyers in Washington and not enough economists. Virtually all economists believe that this is NOT the time for the government to downsize.

  8. I'm not happy with either party. I second what Sandy B says. I hate it that we're now the provider nation.

  9. Taking from one group and giving to another is just prolonging the misery of the latter and making them modern day slaves to the state. Nuff said.

  10. When the next president comes he (not a 'her' yet this time) may have to show his birth certificate to prove he is not a monkey. I've heard that this is in the offing.

  11. oh SO true!!!

    smiles, bee

  12. And once elected, they rarely do what they promised anyway.

  13. All the bickering in Washington is like kids on a playground. Wish they'd grow up and think of all of us!

  14. Its exactly the same here in the UK our MP's are a disgraceful hypocritical bunch oh and I forgot liars too...phew!I'm so glad I got that off my chest.

And after that have a good weekend :-) LOL

  15. I came to the conclusion a very long time ago, that all the main political parties in the UK are as bad as each other. None of them have a clue about or live in the real world.

    Have a great weekend...
