About Cats - Part I

A cat can jump even seven times as high as it is tall.
A cat cannot see directly under its nose. This is why the cat cannot seem to find tidbits on the floor.
A cat is pregnant for about 58-65 days.
A cat's IQ is only surpassed by that of monkeys and chimps in the world of animals.
A cat's nose pad is as unique as a human fingerprint. No two nose prints are identical.
A cat's sense of smell is about 14 times stronger than ours.
A litter of kittens is called a kindle, and a group of cats is called a clowder.
Americans will spend more on cat food this year than baby food.
Ancient Egyptians shaved their eyebrows in mourning when their cats died.
Cat urine glows under a black-light!
Catgut comes from sheep not cats.
Cats are members of the Felidea family.
Cats are the only animals that purr. They can purr at around 26 cycles per second, which is the same frequency as an idling diesel engine.
Cats cannot taste sweet things.
Cats do not think that they are little people. They think that we are big cats.

  1. So my cats last name is Felidea? Will the Felidea family be coming by to pick up the tab? Because it has gotten rather large... because my cats think I'm the the big FOOD LADY.

  2. Join the crowd. I am definitely in charge of food around here no matter what, everyone has to have their food every 30 seconds. Those some fantastic cat facts. Don't forget, cats do rule the world. I know I will get some flack about that remark. Take care Sandee and have one heck of a week end. And it really warmed my heart big time, that you bid on Ann's item in the auction. Thanks a bunch.

  6. Cats are really funny. I have a one year old cat that is so smart, I swear she understands what I say.
LOL! Now the other two cats are really old. All they care about is food.

  9. I like the last one. Cats resemble humans in their superiority complex!

  10. I'm not too sure about cats not tasting sweet things. One of my cats used to go crazy when she smelled marshmallow. I always had to give her one and she licked it all over. I was always left with a sticky dollop to clear away :)

  11. "A cat's sense of smell is about 14 times stronger than ours" So why does ours like to smell people's butts?

  12. A Rose is a flower just bloomed this morning and a cat well, is just a cat! I used to have cats and loved them dearly, but now my house(camper) is a dogs-world. By the way---my dogs love cats and my male tries his best to hump them! Now that would be a mix!

  22. Wonderful facts about cats!! I kid you not (and no one believes me) my cat knows at least 5-6 words, when spoken to. I've heard from the "dog people" that a cat does not understand vocab when spoken to yet their dog does!!! I bloody well think NOT. My cat is just a gorgeous and loving animal (even though right now he seems to be finding lots of deer or wood ticks) and keeps me such great company. gotta luv those cats!! jj

  24. Grown up as kid with 3 cats in the household I know how smart they are. Life for them was all about eating, finding the warmest place to sleep and outdoor adventures...almost wish I was a cat!

  27. Great cat facts! I didn't know all these facts but I do know they can jump high! My male cat (who is now in cat heaven) when he was young used to stand on the floor in front of the fridge. He would look up at the fridge and just jump from floor to the top of the fridge (full size fridge) and it was like slow motion to watch him. It was amazing! Cats are a lot of fun and yes he owned me, my female is ok with me having equal status :)
