Wednesdays Question

It's Wednesday so that means it's question time. There isn't a right or wrong answer to this question as everyone has different opinions on any given issue.

So here's this weeks question: When you were growing up what were you going to be when you grew up? Did you do that or did you do something else?
I didn't want to do the usual female jobs when I was growing up. Teacher, secretary, or nurse (those were the three main professions) just didn't do it for me. I wanted to do whatever any guy would perhaps want to do. There was way too much girls are supposed to do this and boys are supposed to do that. I was a rebel. So what did I do? I became a cop. Weren't a lot of gals doing that in the 70s. It was a wonderful career and I can't imagine having done anything else.

  6. I think I wanted to work at Club Med or one of those places where you are always on holiday (remember, I was young and this was the fantasy job). My life is nothing like that. Ended up with MBA, office job and now I am a homeschool mom. Fun question.

  7. LOL at Barb the crazy cat lady... I wanted to be an art teacher.

My last career was healthcare marketing for a PBM-- nowhere near that.

But I wouldn't trade my past for anything. it made me who I am today.

  13. When I was 7 or 8 or so I wanted to be a duchess, a pianist or a dancer. Then as I got older it was a writer, a teacher, a minister (they had women ministers in my church even way back then), a nurse, a doctor, a lab tech, an actor, a director, a psychologist...spent my whole life as an assistant to presidents/company owners in offices large and small.

  16. A cop! You must be one tough lady! Glad you were happy with your decision. I wanted to be a veterinarian, but instead became a real estate agent. I'm very happy with my choice and wonder what the heck I was thinking! A veterinarian?! That's some serious science classes!

  23. I was one of these people who didn't have a clue. In fact, I have a degree I don't use . . . but I always wanted to be a mommy, and that I am. I wish I had followed my interest survey results by being an auto mechanic. It's probably less stressful than teaching.

  26. I wanted to be an actress, rock & roll singer & famous artist! somehow that slid to the side of the road when I became a very young mom & wife. Now I am an empty nester, but hubby is still around... my hearing went, so I do not sing to loudly, or only when I am drowned out by large groups!

  27. Sadly, I never had a dream! Ended up teaching for a number of years and then went into sales. I suppose I would have liked being a forest ranger. Love the outdoors!

  28. I waffled often between teacher and lawyer. My goal was always to help people.

When college rolled around, and I still hadn't heard my calling, I went with a practical approach. I chose Business Administration as my major because, (and these were my exact words then...) with a business degree you can always get a job, there is always business to be done.

I was blessed with an opportunity no one otherwise suggested... and that was a federal government job. To this day, without the job I have now and that chance I had then to get my foot in the door, I have no idea what else I would have become.
