Entitlement My Ass!

I cruised over to Steve's blog (Burnt Food Dude) and read an interesting piece about our government. The piece was written by Jodi of Jodi's Journey titled, Yep... Here I Go Again!, and it just nails what many of us feel about the government. All government in my book. Please keep in mind that I also live in California and a crazier place in the nation cannot be found.

Something is terribly wrong with the way we do things and we are being brainwashed into believing that Social Security and Medicare are entitlements. I can remember eating very lean because I made so little money, but I was required to pay into social security. I had no choice in the matter and now it's called an entitlement. Welfare is an entitlement.
“I see in the near future a crisis approaching that unnerves me and causes me to tremble for the safety of my country. Corporations have been enthroned, an era of corruption in high places will follow, and the money-power of the country will endeavor to prolong it's reign by working upon the prejudices of the people until the wealth is aggregated in a few hands and the Republic is destroyed.” - Abraham Lincoln
Here's Jodi's post and bravo to Jodi for saying exactly what I've been thinking:
Remember, not only did you contribute to Social Security but your employer did too. It totaled 15% of your income before taxes. If you averaged only 30K over your working life, that's close to $220,500. If you calculate the future value of $4,500 per year (yours & your employer's contribution) at a simple 5% (less than what the govt. pays on the money that it borrows), after 49 years of working (me) you'd have $892,919.98. If you took out only 3% per year, you receive $26,787.60 per year and it would last better than 30 years, and that's with no interest paid on that final amount on deposit! If you bought an annuity and it paid 4% per year, you'd have a lifetime income of $2,976.40 per month. The folks in Washington have pulled off a bigger Ponzi scheme than Bernie Madhoff ever had.

Entitlement my ass, I paid cash for my social security insurance!!!! Just because they borrowed the money, doesn't make my benefits some kind of charity or handout!! Congressional benefits, aka. free health care, outrageous retirement packages, 67 paid holidays, three weeks paid vacation, unlimited paid sick days, now that's welfare, and they have the nerve to call my retirement entitlements !!!!!!

What the HELLS wrong??? WAKE UP AMERICA !!!!

Tuesday's Daily Bulletin paper, ran two articles on the front page side by side:

1- Calif 's 20 Billion Dollar Budget Deficit

2- The Calif Supreme Court ruling that ILLEGALS can attend college and get benefits. Why don't they just deport them when they arrive to register?

3- Last year they ran an article on the yearly costs to Calif Taxpayers from Illegals using Hospital Emergency Rooms for their general health care - At just one hospital the cost to tax payers totaled over 25 million a year.

Someone please tell me what the HELLS wrong with all the people that run this country!!!!!!

We're "broke" & can't help our own Seniors, Veterans, Orphans, Homeless etc.,???????????

In the last months we have provided aid to Haiti, Chile, and Turkey. And now Pakistan ......home of bin Laden. Literally, BILLIONS of DOLLARS!!!

Our retired seniors living on a 'fixed income' receive no aid nor do they get any breaks while our government and religious organizations pour Hundreds of Billions of $$$$$$'s and Tons of Food to Foreign Countries!

They call Social Security and Medicare an entitlement even though most of us have been paying for it all our working lives and now when its time for us to collect, the government is running out of money. Why did the government borrow from it in the first place?

We have hundreds of adoptable children who are shoved aside to make room for the adoption of foreign orphans.

AMERICA: a country where we have homeless without shelter, children going to bed hungry, elderly going without 'needed' meds, and mentally ill without treatment - etc. etc.

They have a 'Benefit' for the people of Haiti on 12 TV stations, ships and planes lining up with food, water, tents clothes, bedding, doctors and medical supplies.

Imagine if the *GOVERNMENT* gave 'US' the same support they give to other countries.

Sad isn't it?

  1. I think stopping the space program is a step in the right direction. Now to me, that is a complete waste of money! I really don't have a problem with helping out foreign countries in need.

  2. Entitlement, my a$$ sums it up quite nicely.

Have a lovely day! Big hugs from hawyt south jawjah, where we have way too many people getting welfare. xoxo

ps. You have a new spamfan... Mr. Livestrongtreadmill. It amuses me to think that these spammers really think leaving those kind of comments will ever get people to their sites.

  3. Thanks Sandee. I read it on Jodi's blog and cut and pasted it. Thinking of sending it to the President and both the Republicans and Democrats. I have no problem helping other Countries. But don't forget ours in the meantime.

  4. So tired of all this govenment BS.

The only entitlements we have is our God-given rights of "Life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness" as well as all men [and women] are created equal.

  5. Fantastic post, or posts!

We have to keep hammering these thoughts and feelings in our circles of influence. We have to support like minded politicians, however rare they might be.

  6. thought provoking quotes.
    have a great day!

  7. Hi Sandee,
I can see the angst and anger rising over this. Several talking heads are turning this into an 'entitlement' issue. It's smoke and mirrors, designed to take your mind off the real issue; The perks and spending of what is becoming an oligarchical class. A start is foreign aid, we should send no money overseas if we have one hungry child in America. better yet to look at the pork being used to buy votes of the uninformed, hundreds of billions going to that. Read my column today to see where I think the true fault lies.

  8. Karen I disagree on the space program. It has brought us many advances in technology, communication and science. So we actually got something back for that money.

  9. Oh that is all so very true. That is so well put and so right on. Our Government is a sick thing.

    Take care Sandee

  10. Thank you too for re-posting this Sandee, have a great Thursday!!

  11. Bravo! This is sooo true. It is entirely guvmint mismanagement and a huge Ponzi scheme. We, the people, are getting the shaft.

Keep on smiling and have a great day. Big hugs, honey...

  12. why do americans not vote them all out??? that is beyond me. i am voting out all of them that i can. period. i am sick to death of them ALL. the end.

    smiles, and hugs, bee

  13. Oh, don't get me started! I feel the government has "stolen" our money and we'll probably never see it. I could have done much better saving that money and investing my own way. We work and pay ... what about all those welfare recipients? They need to cut them off, not retired senior citizens and veterans who have made their contribution! The mentality of our government is really scary! And the illegals ... treat them enough to save their lives then send them home! No college either. My daughter goes to college and there's no "free lunch"!

  14. Thank you for helping spread the word.

I guess the new political definition of liberal is a politician that wants to spread your money around to take care of other people and countries except your own.

From ghoulies and ghosties, long-leggedy beasties and Democrats that go bump in the night, Good Lord, deliver us!

  15. This is just what Mo is saying about the UK. Billions of pounds handed out to other countries, and people who have never paid into our system, while British people who have paid into it all their lives suffer. Something is terribly wrong.

  16. The irony about social security is that the money has not run out! There is plenty. It's just that greedy rich people have blocked us from collecting what is our just due. My payments are based upon 100% of what I earn. Why is there a ceiling on how much can be taxed for social security? What is it--$77,000? If the government taxed social security based upon 100% of everyone's income (not just 100% of poor and middle class earnings), there would be NO problems paying out benefits. The rich have held the country hostage through their greed. Abe Lincoln was right and would be rolling over in his grave if he knew what his Republican brothers were up to.

  17. I love you bunches Joyce, but I disagree about it just being the Republicans that are the cause. I know it's both sides of the aisle. Neither are really representing the American public anymore. They are in it for the power, the benefits, the perks and a laundry list of other things. Their primary focus is on reelection. They pour millions upon millions into their reelection campaigns.

Until the American people get across to them that we've had enough things will remain as they are. I'm sick of all of them. :(

  18. Great discussion. I agree with so many comments here. Both parties made this mess, and since it went in unchecked so many years ago,the politicians have felt free rein to waste so much money for so many years, that they now feel it's an entitlement. They are right in that it is an argument about entitlements, but where the politicians have it wrong is who's entitlements were mad about. If the talking heads get them to think the problem is OUR Entitlements, they know the American voter won't look any further for the real cause, the real problem; which is THEIR Entitlements. Want to make yourself sick, look up how much the staffing needs of our elected officials in the last 20 years. Don't get fooled by the SS debate, they are trying to throw you off the scent of the real varmint here.

  19. Honestly, I have VERY LITTLE use for politicians, regardless of party or policy. They have two goals in life. Goal no. 1, get elected. Goal no. 2, get re-elected. Everything they do is determined by how it will meet goals one and two. Just sayin'.

  20. I think I'm going to start printing my own money. . .

  21. Now all we need to do is get the donkey's in D.C. to read this!!! Hmmm, we should all forward it to them in emails.

  22. It is the same story in the UK, we have allowed rich men, corporations and politicians to get richer and more powerful, at the expense of the honest, decent hard working folks. The real wars are on our own soils, not foreign lands!

  23. It's a downright shame what greed has done for our government. Our founding fathers would be ashamed of what they saw today.

  24. Sandee, they call it 'entitlements,' because any freaking immigrants who pay a minimum five years into the system, they get full benefits...

If they legalize all of those illegal aliens, they will bankrupt us and the entire system. It will be all over but the crime for all of us!

Great article, and you're absolutely right! We all paid into the system.....

  25. I don't think illegal aliens are as much of a problem as the big corporations like GE that don't pay taxes and control most of the Republicans and Democrats like puppets.

Most of the country doesn't like what they're doing, but they don't care. This new Super Congress they're setting up to make cuts is scary! I think this bunch of clowns needs to be voted out!

Thank you for stopping by my little corner of the blogosphere. All comments are very much appreciated.
