Thoughts on Golf

In primitive society, when native tribes beat the ground with clubs and yelled, it was called witchcraft; today, in civilized society, it is called golf.

Golf is an expensive way of playing marbles.

Golf is a game in which the slowest people in the world are those in front of you, and the fastest are those behind.

Golf: A five mile walk punctuated with disappointments.

The secret of good golf is to hit the ball hard, straight and not too often.

There's no game like golf: you go out with three friends, play eighteen holes, and return with three enemies.

Golf was once a rich man's sport, but now it has millions of poor players.

An amateur golfer is one who addresses the ball twice: once before swinging, and once again after swinging.

Many a golfer prefers a golf cart to a caddy because the cart cannot count, criticize or laugh.

  9. I used to be a golfer and even played in a league every week with other people at the police department as well as a tournament every summer. Even though the game was frustrating as all get out most of the time (it's definitely not as easy as one might think!) I always had a lot of fun.

It depresses me to no end to know that my clubs are basically moldering away down in the basement whilst my bad back keeps me from taking them out and enjoying them again. Sometimes life just ain't fair!

Have a wonderful Friday, Sandee, and look how close we are to our cruise!!

  10. I love it Sandy! :) Thank you. I like golf; Mrs. Jim plays 2-3 times a week, I play 1-2 IN GOOD WEATHER.
Another secret is that one good pretty shot (hit the ball) is worth the whole day for us duffers! That is why we come back for more, to have another shot like the one we remember being so good!
And a new club will brighten a golfer's play for at least a week.

  11. Oh I love those. I have always thought that golf was a little silly to play and so all those facts sure did make sense. Too funny. I enjoyed that one. Have a super week end Sandee.

  13. My neighbor just got fitted for custom clubs. Who knew such a thing existed?

I can't even play miniature golf. But there wasn't room for a golf cart anyway.

Big hugs, and thanks for the prayers for Billy. :]

  14. Your list pretty much sums up the sport except is missing the smutty connotations of some of the equipment and terms: shaft, balls, dogballs, foursomes, goldie bounce, hole, flagstick, rub of the green, shank, skin, sprachie, stroke play, sweet-spot, up and down, vaulting dormie, wedge, whiff, worm burner and wood. What a sport!

  15. everyone I know who golfs tells me what a relaxing game it is. It just never looked like my cup of tea.

  16. I use to play golf when I was younger, but after beating the ground once to many times with golf clubs, I quit for my sanity. I beats be why some people think it is a good way to relax, they are having a laugh!

  17. My DH took up golf after he blew out his knee playing baseball... he can hit that little white ball far. trouble is he has a baseball slice, so he needs a chainsaw, blow up canoe & weed wacker to find the balls after he smacks them. I think he should go back to marbles, no hitting, and the balls are cheaper.

  18. This explains a lot! I was a terrible marbles player and grew into a worse golfer. Now I get it. Have a great weekend!

  19. It is rumored that the 19th hole is the best thing about that particular sport.
