Wednesdays Question

It's Wednesday so that means it's question time. It's time to ponder and then answer just one question. Okay, you can add all you want as a reason for your answer too. We'd all like that. I'll even answer my own question as that's only fair.

So here's this weeks question: Do you prefer giving or receiving?
Hubby and I much prefer giving than receiving. We just don't need anything and this is the first year I've even purchased hubby a Christmas gift in a very long time. A new pair of house slippers. Why? His old pair was worn out. We rarely exchange gifts, but when we do it's because it's something that needs replacing, and it can happen anytime during the year.

  1. LOL - I know, the right answer is giving, but the truth is, it depends on the gift. :)

  2. Actually I've never been a big fan of gifts, generally speaking... For many reasons, but mostly I believe that a greater sense appreciation and a self-satifaction comes from having to work hard and developing self-discipline in order to get the things you need or want in life. Sorry, I don't mean to be a Debbie Downer, but that's the truth. Kids nowadays are so "entitled". I find it very troubling.

To be clear, I'm not talking about little kids birthdays or Christmas, you understand. I love getting them little prizes! But even mny of those are mostly over-done. I see pictures on Facebook of these HUGE parties with mountains of gifts... Really, parents? Do they really have 30 best friends and do they really need lots of expensive gifts because they turned 4?

Have a perfect day! big hugs xoxo

    1. I'm right with you Barb. I do see those same parties with money no object. Kids need to be taught about so many other important things, like giving and showing respect. Oh the list goes on and on.

Thanks for your fabulous take on things. I always appreciate your wisdom. Big hugs. ♥♥♥

  3. Although I agree with Rhonda I prefer giving the only downdide to recieving is having to put on a delighted face when it is something you would never use or want LOL i am always grateful though it's the thought that counts c-)

  4. First of all I have to say that Barb's answer if exactly how I've felt for a very long time. She hit the nail right on the head there.
With that being said. I guess I prefer to give but I don't mind receiving once in a while either :)

  6. We both love giving, especially to the grandkids. I love watching them open all their gifts, not just the ones from us. I always tell my grown children to give me pictures. That is what I love most. But I do like to get that little something special from hubby every year. At Christmas, we either swap a gift or go somewhere. Since we aren't going to the kids this year, we are spending a few nights in Hot Springs, AR. Can't wait!

    1. I love the pictures too. I like the idea of going somewhere. I think I'll take hubby to Olive Garden after Christmas. We always enjoy that. I could be a date. :)

  7. I enjoy giving if I feel confident that I chose the right gifts. Lot of pressure to pick the right things.

Receiving is better because I appreciate anything anyone does for me.

  8. Giving. We have been blessed beyond our dreams over the years and there is really nothing that we need. Sure, there are things that we have a desire to own but nothing that we really must have to get along in this world. Like others here, we would much rather see the faces on the grandcrew and others when they open their gifts. Merry Christmas to all.

  28. I much prefer giving to receiving! When I find and get a gift for a loved one that I know they're absolutely going to love, I can hardly wait to give it to them! I get such joy & pleasure from making that special someone happy - much more joy than I've ever felt after receiving a gift myself.

  30. For me it has ALWAYS been giving. Even if I was broke, I'd make something. I love the joy on recipients faces as they open their gifts. When they realize the thoughtfulness behind it. I love giving MEMORIES. I love so much about it. But to be completely honest, I love receiving too. I love knowing I was thought of, that someone cares about me. As I get older I get a bit sadder to get fewer gifts. Even from my husband on other occasions. I really do need to talk to him about this. I simple card would be wonderful to cherish and look back on. His Mom kept all the cards she received from his Dad over the years. He's gone now, and those are priceles. I want those memories! He just doesn't get it.
