Day XII

Since we are on a sea day it's time to have a bit of different food. While checking out what's offered on the Carnival Spirit I found this Italian place. Anyone that knows me knows that I'm addicted to pasta. I'd rather have pasta than chocolate. So I think a trip here for lunch would be a fabulous idea, maybe even dinner. Life is good. WYWH!
Cucina Del Capitano

Say arrivederci to ordinary and ciao to a new and exciting dining experience at the restaurant that pays homage to our unique heritage. Italian-American dishes inspired by the recipes from our Italian captains’ and officers’ childhoods are served up family-style in a comfy, eclectic environment decorated to feel like an Italian country home. Vintage images of our captains and ships adorn the walls, and there’s even a Captain’s table where you just might see the man himself dine. While the casual pasta lunch is complimentary, the full-service dinner menu is offered at an extra charge.

Day XI

We are now heading back to the mainland which means we have four seas days to get to Encenada, Mexico. I'm sure after all the running around we have done for the last five days it will be nice to kick back and rest for a day or two. I'm also thinking it's time for another visit at the steakhouse. Yes, I'm sure of it. Life is good. WYWH!

Day IX

Today we are in Kona, Hawaii. Our excursion today is the Kona Historical Tour. Some of the things we'll do on this tour:
  • View of Kealakekua Bay where Captain Cook first arrived in Hawaiia
  • See St. Benedict's "Painted Church"
  • Stop and enjoy the World Famous Kona Coffee Farm
  • Visit Pu`uhonua `o Honaunau (the Place of Refuge)
  • Tour Historic Kona Town
  • No host lunch.
Life is good. WYWH!

Kona, HI - Step on this multi-colored island ringed with miles of bougainvillea and poinsettia and you'll understand immediately why the royals of Hawaii chose it as their summer residence. The deep, rich soil is the breeding ground for two of the world's most unique treasures: macadamia nuts and Kona coffee, and there's plenty of both in the quaint shops, which also offer exquisite coral jewelry and hand-sewn muumuus. At the opposite end of quaint: Hulihee Palace, grand and majestic with a superb collection of royal antiques.

Day VIII

Today we are in Honolulu, Hawaii. We will tour Pearl Harbor and the USS Missouri. I've always wanted to visit both of these places as they are full circle to me. One is at the very beginning of a horrible war and the other is the ending of that horrible war. There will be tears. Life if good. WYWH!
Honolulu, HI - Imagine spending all day and all night on gorgeous Honolulu. You'll need time to take in this beautiful island with its pulsating nightlife, world-class dining, perfect beaches and quiet coves. Stroll the fabled beaches of Waikiki under the protective watch of the ancient volcanic profile of Diamond Head. Visit the Polynesian Cultural Center, a 42-acre living museum of the many cultures of the South Pacific. And be sure to stop off at the historic USS Arizona Memorial, dedicated to those who died at Pearl Harbor.

Day VII

Today we are in Maui and that means it's Luau time. The last time I was in Hawaii I couldn't afford to go to a Luau, but since hubby has never been to Hawaii, we can share this wonderful experience together for the very first time. I'm even going to try poi. I'll let you know how that works out. Life is good. WYWH!
Maui (Kahului), HI - Hawaii is one of the world's foremost vacation, honeymoon and anniversary destinations. As one of Hawaii's remaining untouched areas, Kahalui, located on the west side of Maui, let's you enjoy miles of white sand beaches and crystal clear waters. The year-round near perfect weather allows you to take full advantage of the sapphire blue skies and warm tropical winds. Aside from housing Maui's only deep water harbor, Kahalui is also where you'll find the Kahana Pond State Wildlife Sanctuary.

Day VI

This morning we find ourselves in Hilo Hawaii. We decided to book the excursion to Volcano National Park because the Hawaiian Islands were all formed by volcanos. We find this fasinating and am sure that we'll have a great time. We'll then explore the bay. Life is good. WYWH!
Hilo, HI - You'll be intoxicated by the fragrant orchids and antharium which fill the air. This is Hawaii's second largest metropolis, yet it remains a quaint city of Victorian homes which overlook a half-moon bay. With its magnificent Japanese Yedo Garden and a half-hour walk through verdant tropical forest opening into the awesome beauty of Akaka Falls, Hilo is one of the most scenic tropical cities in the Pacific.

Day V

This is our last sea day and it's also the night we are going to the steakhouse for dinner. This is a must do for us. We had a fabulous meal on the Carnival Glory last February with Sarge Charlie, Empress Bee, Dick and Sandy, Barb and Linda. I had a Filet Mignon that you could cut with a fork. Absolutely divine.

Tomorrow morning finds us in Hilo, Hawaii and our first shore excursion begins. We are ready for our feet to be on the ground for a bit. Life is good. WYWH!

Day IV

This is our third sea day and I'm sure we are having a blast. Our personal vacation planner Edward Garcia (Miami, Florida) said he ordered up some great weather for us and as he takes such good care of us I'm sure we are having fabulous weather. Anyway, one more sea day after today and then it's the Hawaiian Islands and lots of fun things to do.

By now hubby and I have a good sense of what the Spirit has to offer and I'm sure we're having the time of our life. We are so addicted to anything boating, but the big ships are the best. Just show up and have a good time while everyone else does all the work. My kind of cruising. Life is good. WYWH!

Day III

Sometime today we reach the halfway mark to Hilo, Hawaii. I'm not sure how we are doing on all the sea days, but I'll let you know when we return.

I'm also sure by now that we've found a few staff members that we like and are making sure that we see them everyday. The staff on Carnival are fantastic. They bend over backwards to make sure that everything is just right. One more sea day after today and then we can see the Hawaiian Islands. I'm so ready for that. Life is good. WYWH!

Happy Birthday Mike

Mike of Rambling Stuff aka: Golch Central is having a birthday today. Although I'm on a cruise ship headed to Hawaii, I didn't want to forget Mike's birthday. So grab some cake and make sure you swing by and wish him a happy birthday. Have a great birthday my friend.

Day II

Today is the first day of four sea days. Did you know that the Hawaiian Islands are about 2000 miles from the mainland of the United States. I didn't know that either until I looked it up. Today you'll find us exploring the ship and perhaps some reading. The next four days are all about resting and enjoying a slow pace. We might catch a show or two, and since the piano bar is now non smoking we just may check that out. Want to come along Barb? We'll buy you a nice glass of red wine. Life is good. WYWH!

Day I

This morning we are having our coffee, and then showering and getting our Honda to the Park and Fly lot and then catch the shuttle to the Carnival Spirit. We sail at 4 this afternoon and you'll find us on our private balcony having champagne as we head to sea. I remember how I felt on the Carnival Glory when we left port. I'm sure I'll feel the exact same way. Excited about our cruise on the best cruise line out there. Life if good. WYWH!

San Diego

We are off to San Diego this morning and it will take about 9 to 10 hours depending on how many stops we make. This begins our trek toward the Carnival Spirit and our trip across the Pacific Ocean to the Hawaiian Islands. We will spend tonight on the San Diego bay having some champagne on our patio. Life is good. WYWH!

One More Day!

Today is a busy day with last minute packing and of course I have to get a fill and a pedicure. I won't be allowed on the ship if my feet and toes aren't just perfect. That's a rule you know. So today is the last day before we leave for San Diego. We are so excited. I don't think Little Bit thinks too much about us leaving her. She's in good hands though.

I wonder if hubby and I are going to be able to get a good nights sleep tonight? Probably not, but we'll do the best we can. We've also been talking about making another Florida trip and doing two back to back cruises to the Caribbean in a few years. Now that's what I'm talking about. Life is good.

Busy Week

Lots of loose ends to tie up in the next two days. Errands that need doing, cleaning, laundry and all those things you do when someone is coming over to house sit. You can't leave them with a mess, so we won't. Today I get my hair done and then do a few errands. Hubby is doing some of this secretarial duties for his club and then we'll check our list twice to make sure everything is done. I've been excited about this cruise for a very long time, but finally hubby is excited. He's ready to go. He loves sea days and so do I and quite frankly we are looking forward to taking it easy on the sea days.

We are also hoping that we enjoy our dinner partners and not end up with a table of people that are so into themselves that we'll hate to have dinner with them. You know the type. It's all about them and no one else exists. Perhaps I can be as witty at Jean and Bill were on one of their cruises. They had lots of fun being exactly what the couple of clods wanted them to be. Okay, maybe we'll just get lucky and have a wonderful group of folks like we did on our Carnival Glory cruise last year. That would be great. Life is good.

Not Good

Now this is something I really didn't want to see since we are sailing on the Carnival Spirit this Friday to Hawaii. Nope this is not something I wanted to see.

My first thought was I think Sarge Charlie, Empress Bee and The Traveling Bells have been on this ship. At least on one of the ships in the Costa Cruise Lines.

Absent-minded Professor

One morning as Professor Jones was leaving for the university his wife told her absent-minded husband, "Don't forget we are moving today. If you come to this house this afternoon it will be empty." Predictably, he didn't remember until he found the house vacated that afternoon.

He mumbled to himself, "And where was it we were moving to?" He went out in front of the house and asked a little girl, "Did you see a moving van here today, little girl?"

"Yes," she replied.

"Would you know which way it went?"

She looked up at him and said, "Yes, Daddy, I'll show you."

What Do You Make?

The dinner guests (which included a doctor, a lawyer, an engineer and a teacher) were sitting around the table discussing life. One man, a CEO, decided to address the importance of financial success and choosing a career that assured it. To stress his point he unabashedly said to another guest; "You're a teacher, Bonnie. Be honest. What do you make?"

Teacher Bonnie replied, "You want to know what I make? (She paused for a second, then began...)
  • Well, I make kids work harder than they ever thought they could.
  • I make a children receiving an A or B for their work feel like Congressional Medal of Honor winners.
  • I make kids sit through 40 minutes of class time when their parents can't make them sit for 5 minutes without an I Pod, Game Cube or movie rental.
You want to know what I make? She paused again and looked at each and every person at the table.
  • I make kids wonder.
  • I make them question.
  • I make them apologize and mean it.
  • I make them have respect for others and take responsibility for their actions.
  • I teach them how to write and then I make them write. Keyboarding isn't everything.
  • I make them read, read, read.
  • I make them show all their work in math. They use their God given brain, not the man-made calculator.
  • I make my classroom a place where all my students feel safe.
  • Finally, I make them understand that if they use the gifts they were given, work hard and follow their hearts, they can succeed in life.
Bonnie looked at the CEO, paused one last time and then continued. Then, when people try to judge me by what I make, with me knowing money isn't everything, I can hold my head up high and pay no attention. You want to know what I make? I make a difference in all your lives, educating your children and preparing them to become CEOs, doctors and engineers ... What do you make?

His jaw dropped and the other guests were silent.

The Pearly Gates

A Muslim dies and finds himself before the Pearly Gates. He is very excited, as all his life he has longed to meet the Prophet Mohammed. Having arrived at the Gates of Heaven, he meets a man with a beard.

"Are you Mohammed?" he asks.

"No, my son. I am Peter. Mohammed is higher up." And he points to a ladder that rises into the clouds.

Delighted that Mohammed should be higher than Peter, he climbs the ladder in great strides, climbs through the clouds coming to a room where he meets another bearded man. He asks again, "Are you Mohammed?"

"No, I am Moses. Mohammed is higher still."

Exhausted, but with a heart full of joy he continues to climb the ladder and, yet again, he discovers an even larger room where he meets another man with a beard. Full of hope, he asks again, "Are you Mohammed?"

"No, I am Jesus. You will find Mohammed higher up."

Mohammed higher than Jesus! The poor man can hardly contain his delight and climbs and climbs, ever higher. Once again he reaches a larger room where he meets a man with a beard and repeats his question: "Are you Mohammed?" he gasps as he is, by now, totally out of breath from all his climbing.

"No my son, I am God, but you look exhausted. Would you like some coffee?"

"Yes, please, my Lord."

God looks behind him, claps his hands and calls out: "Hey Mohammed, two coffees!"

Honorary Degree

A rich man walks into the Dean's Office at a small college. "I'd like to donate several million dollars to the institution."

"Why, that's very generous of you."

"But there is one condition: I'd like you to bestow an honorary degree."

"That's no problem; no problem at all."

"I haven't finished. I want an honorary degree for my horse."

"Your horse?"

"Yup, you bet. She carried me for many a year and I owe her a lot. I'd like her to receive her Tr.d. - Doctor of Transportation."

"I'm sorry, we can't give a degree to a horse. What will people think?"

"Well, I'll just take my donation to another educational institution."

"Wait, wait! Let me consult with the school trustees." The dean calls a hurried trustee meeting and relays the details of the deal. All of the board except the oldest member reacts with shock and dismay. The oldest trustee looks like he's sleeping through the meeting.

After all the arguments, the old man says, "Take the money and give the horse the degree."

"What? Don't you think that would disgrace the college?"

"We give honorary degrees to lawyers, don't we?"

"Yes, but ..."

"We give honorary degrees to politicians, don't we?"

"Yes ..."

"So what's wrong with giving an honorary degree to the entire horse?"

Dear Leader

I am really concerned about North Korea's appointment of the "dear leader", Kim Jung Ill's youngest son to be the new leader of North Korea -- a nuclear power! After all, Kim Jung Un (pronounced Kim's young-un?) had NO military experience whatsoever before daddy made him a four-star general in the military.

This is a snot-nose twerp who has never accomplished anything in his life that that would even come close to military leadership: he hasn't even so much as led a cub scout troop, let alone coached a sports team or commanded a military platoon. So, setting that aside, next they make him the "beloved leader" of the country. Terrific!!!

Oh, crap! I'm sorry. I just remembered that we did the same thing here. We took a community organizer who has never worn a uniform and made him Commander-in-Chief; a guy who has never led anything more than an ACORN demonstration and made him the leader of this country. Never mind.

This and That

Hubby and I are both in vacation mode and the list is getting shorter and shorter on things left to do. We've got all our clothes lined out for the trip as well as paid for everything except what we do on the ship and during our excursions. I'm getting pretty close to getting the suitcases down and start packing.

Our son and granddaughter will be house sitting while we are gone because someone has to make sure our Little Bit is happy. We can't put her in a kennel as she won't eat and she's just too old for that kind of trauma. She is sad when we are gone, but she knows if she is home then we will return. It's been working fine for some years now. We also got her a dog house as our son will be working during the day and that means Little Bit will be in the back yard. Hubby has been training her to get into and out of the doghouse and she's doing well. It will keep her warmer and she'll have her bed with all her doggie smells to comfort her. What we won't do for our babies.

We have 12 more days until our cruise and to say I'm not excited would be a big fib. I'm so looking forward to all the things Carnival Spirit has to offer. We had a fabulous time last year cruising to the Caribbean on the Carnival Glory with our blogging buddies and I sure wish that whole crowd was cruising with us to Hawaii.

Next Friday we are going to have television again after many years with no television. It's the new U-family from AT&T and it's all fiber optics. This is a bundle with Internet, television and phone service. What is really cool is we are going from DSL at 6 MBPS to fiber optics at 12 MBPS. Wow, twice as fast? I can't wait for that. Television? Not so much but hubby will enjoy that.

We are spending this weekend at home and have a family get together on Sunday. Next weekend we'll be boating for our regular January yacht club meeting Saturday night and then a board meeting on Sunday morning. Then it's home and do the last minute things before we leave on Thursday the 18th and head for San Diego, California. I. Can't. Wait!

The Office

I said, "Yes, it's all under control. It's been a very busy day, I haven't stopped."

"Can you do me a favor?" he asked.

I said, "Of course, what is it?"

He said, "Hurry up and take your shot, I'm in the foursome behind you."

The Brainless

People traveling on airplanes also go crazy when it comes to odd requests. Here are some of the strange requests from the air passengers across the globe as narrated by airlines staff.

"Can you open the window?"

An elderly gentleman who could not sleep requested the captain to turn off the noise. "Do you mean the engine?" asked the captain. "Yes, yes, the engine!"

At dinner time a woman said her children would prefer McDonald's and requested the air hostess to get a Big Mac and fries.

A woman in first class was wearing a tiny red crop top and mint green miniskirt. She had also booked the seat next to her for her Barbie doll, which was wearing the same outfit and was sitting upright with the seat belt fastened. The woman requested a cup of tea and a massage for the doll. (Reminds you of Mr. Bean and his Teddy!)

Smart Mouthed

A student got into trouble at school when his teacher was teaching a math class and he fell asleep.

When the teacher proceeded to ask him a question he snapped awake and the teacher took a ruler and pointed it at the boy while saying, "At the end of this ruler is an idiot."

The student got into trouble because he replied back, "And which end might you be referring to?"

Snake & Rabbit

A snake and a rabbit were racing along a pair of intersecting forest pathways one day, when they collided at the intersection. They immediately began to argue with one another as to who was at fault for the mishap.

When the snake remarked that he had been blind since birth, and thus should be given additional leeway, the rabbit said that he, too, had been blind since birth. The two animals then forgot about the collision and began commiserating concerning the problems of being blind.

The snake said that his greatest regret was the loss of his identity. He had never been able to see his reflection in the water, and for that reason did not know exactly what he looked like, or even what he was. The rabbit declared that he had the same problem. Seeing a way that they could help each other, the rabbit proposed that one feel the other from head to toe, and then try to describe what the other animal was.

The snake agreed, and started by winding himself around the rabbit. After a few moments, he announced, "You've got very soft, fuzzy fur, long ears, big rear feet, and a little fuzzy ball for a tail. I think that you must be a bunny rabbit!"

The rabbit was much relieved to find his identity, and proceeded to return the favor to the snake. After feeling about the snake's body for a few minutes, he asserted, "Well, you're scaly, you're slimy, you've got beady little eyes, you squirm and slither all the time, and you've got a forked tongue. I think you're a lawyer!"

Happy New Year

We spend January 1 walking through our lives, room by room, drawing up a list of work to be done, cracks to be patched. Maybe this year, to balance the list, we ought to walk through the rooms of our lives... not looking for flaws, but for potential. ~Ellen Goodman
