The American businessman was at the pier of a small coastal Mexican village when a small boat with just one fisherman docked. Inside the small boat were several large Yellowfin tuna. The American complimented the Mexican on the quality of his fish and asked how long it took to catch them. The Mexican replied only a little while. The American then asked why didn't he stay out longer and catch more fish? The Mexican said he had enough to support his family's immediate needs. The American then asked, but what do you do with the rest of your time?
The Mexican fisherman said, "I sleep late, fish a little, play with my children, take siesta with my wife, Maria, stroll into the village each evening where I sip wine and play guitar with my amigos, I have a full and busy life, senor."
The American scoffed, "I am a Harvard MBA and could help you. You should spend more time fishing and with the proceeds buy a bigger boat, with the proceeds from the bigger boat you could buy several boats, eventually you would have a fleet of fishing boats. Instead of selling your catch to a middleman you would sell directly to the processor, eventually opening your own cannery. You would control the product, processing and distribution. You would need to leave this small coastal fishing village and move to Mexico City, then LA and eventually NYC where you will run your expanding enterprise."
The Mexican fisherman asked, "But senor, how long will this all take?"
To which the American replied, "15-20 years."
"But what then, senor?"
The American laughed and said, "That's the best part. When the time is right you would announce an IPO and sell your company stock to the public and become very rich, you would make millions."
"Millions, senor? Then what?"
The American said, "Then you would retire. Move to a small coastal fishing village where you would sleep late, fish a little, play with your kids, take siesta with your wife, stroll to the village in the evenings where you could sip wine and play your guitar with your amigos."

Now I really loved that one. Excellent.
Witty humour mate...
Quite the fate of all the so called work-a-holics... LOL...
I once saw a baseball cap with the inscription, "Don't confuse having a job with having a life." I think the Mexican here just might have the right idea.
I stitched a pillow that read:
"Don't be so busy making a living that you forget to make a life!" How true huh? So many forget to slow down and take in all the beauty God has given us, including our families and friends.
Very nice story Sandee. I loved it.
Hope you have a great day also!
:-)
Hugs,
Kimmie
Yup, great commentary on core values, eh? Enjoyed it and it's something I needed to hear right now. Thanks and y'all have a great day, hear?

What Kimmie said!
Sandee, I don't know if anyone else had this happen.. I tried to access your site from home and my Norton's Internet Security said that a malicious toolkit "Microsoft Data Access Remote Data Services Dat" was trying to access my computer. I camer to work and just had the same thing happen. It totally locks up Internet Explorer. :sigh:
I finally had to access it with Firefox. Just thought I should mention it. Did you recently add anything to your site?
right, wait, um, no wait, huh??? ha ha ha ha ha

Very smart guy!
I also got an alert about some "download agent" when I clicked on this site. Very strange!
I want my hubby to read this. :) I'd love to slow down and focus on living instead of making one. *sigh*
Excellent post~ I think the Mexican Fisherman had the right idea.
Cheers, my sweet friend and love,
Ann
Ain't it the truth? So many people lose sight of what they REALLY want. Amen to the fisherman.
That was excellent!
~big hug~ :D
I'd rather be on a beach with a Mexican fisherman than selling stock with a Harvard MBA.

That was a good story - something for us "business" folk to dwell on.
Sad but true...
Awesome read! I love taking my son with me on my Sevylor boat.
Sandee, this post would be perfect for our "Humor in the Workplace" Blog Carnival. Would you be interested in submitting??
